Collections of Information

Derek Rankins

Collections of Information derives from my work with Information Science.  I am looking at theories within Information Philosophy and creating small collections of information.  My plans are to process and visualize the data across collections looking for unseen details and connections.  I will be interpreting these details manually as well as utilizing artificial intelligence and machine learning to ask larger questions and have deeper conversations with this information.  The origins of taxonomies and ontologies being one of the largest goals of this work there is also the approach of looking at text as an image.

Taxonomy

“Taxonomy is the practice and science of categorization or classification. A taxonomy is a scheme of classification, especially a hierarchical classification, in which things are organized into groups or types.”

Ontology

“In metaphysics, ontology is the philosophical study of being, as well as related concepts such as existence, becoming, and reality. Ontology addresses questions like how entities are grouped into categories and which of these entities exist on the most fundamental level.”
